Stunning pair of Arts & Crafts oak chair with a stylised flower with five pewter hearts as petals to the centre back attributed to G M Ellwood . The top rail has a pierced squashed heart to the centre between capped columns. The studded fabric seats although strong could do with replacing. Offered in good colour and condition. Arts & Crafts carved walnut smoker's cabinet which is a period replica of the Raleigh Smokers cabinet retailed by Liberty & Co. So was this version also retailed by them? Whereas the Raleigh had stencilled panels that often faded, this has beautifully carved doors. Below the cabinet are two circular holes that were made for bowls for mixing tobacco with smaller ones for pipes. The carved words are from "Night and Morning" a book by Edward Bulwer-Lytton 1841 and read "The man who smokes thinks like a sage and acts like a Samaritan" Whilst smoking is not so fashionable now, this is a beautiful example of fine carving and of a bygone era, Offered in good condition with some paint residue to base. Arts & Crafts oak armchair with pierced yin-yang cutouts to front and sides. This design was retailed by Goodyer's of Regent Street. A loose cushion sits on the frame done in a William Morris design. Upholstery shows some wear. There are several variations of this model, some have a drop in seat and some have a cushion that sits on a wooden frame. Some have yin-yang piercings whilst others have spades and hearts. Offered in good condition however there is a historic split to one side as this was a design fault with these chairs and often happens but the chair remains firm. Height 85cms. Very rare Arts & Crafts William Morris ebonised Sussex three seat settee in untouched original condition having been abandoned in an old cottage for decades. It stands firm but with a glued break to the right hand arm where it joins the rush. The original rush guard at the edges is in place. Some loss of the ebonised finish to the front can be seen The rush is the original but some rush strands are broken. This has not been touched except to move some cobwebs! Dimensions: Height 86cms.
